Well, it's a sad story,

story of apparent compromise on the part of a fairly popular and prominent Christian couple made famous by their fixer-upper show

and then essentially a media empire built down there in

Waco, Texas. Chip and Joanna Gaines, what are the lessons to be learned from this significant

compromise? Welcome back to Issues, Cedar. I'm Todd Wilkin, joining us to discuss that

very topic. Katie Fow, she's a married mother of four children in Seattle,

founder and director of the children's rights organization, Them Before Us. She's editor and author of a chapter in the book,

Pro Child Politics, an author of a recent column for the federalist titled Chip and Joanna Gaines compromise is a warning to us all.

to talk with you, Todd. What was your first reaction when you found out about Chip and Joanna Gaines

featuring a same-sex couple with surrogate children on their new show back to the frontier?

Well, I don't follow them closely. I'm not a big TV watcher. So I assume that it must be

some kind of mistake, some kind of oversight, you know, where the production team got a little

over their skis, and they're like, oh, let's just shake up the frontier and add a little bit of

modern diversity. So I assumed Chip and Joanna Gaines were probably caught off guard by this,
