So you know we use this weekly podcast to go in depth with leaders and newsmakers,

and I have a really special guest with me this week.

Leonard Downey Jr.

was the former executive editor and vice president of the Washington Post.

He helped supervise the Post's Watergate coverage back in the 1970s. He really led the paper for decades.

He spent 44 years in the newsroom of the Washington Post.

And he's now a professor of journalism at the Cronkite

School at Arizona State University.

So he worked for CPJ on a report about the Trump administration's relationship with the media.

In some ways this is a sequel to a report that he filed during the Obama years.

There are some similarities to the Obama years and there are many differences, which we're going to get into in just a moment.
