I'm doing very well, Don.

Let's talk about, we'll talk about what's in the book, but I want to talk about your career.

You've had one of the longest, richest careers in entertainment. You've done Broadway, you've R&B, TV, all of it.

So when you look back now, is there something that ties it all together for you?

Yeah, so I like to say, I go to the gym every day, so when I fall down, I can keep getting up.

That's what ties it together.

And I think it's a book really about overcoming.

And you and I were just starting to talk.

He said, well, Melville, you started out in gospel.

That's a cliche for all most great black singers.

But that wasn't true for me.

How'd you start?

My natural voice is lyric soprano, classical, just natural.

Then I majored in music education, so we started, I majored in vocal music. So you study classical music.

But I wanted to have hit records and stuff. So I learned how to sing R&B.
