Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Missouri is a land where history and the unexplained are deeply entwined. From the lingering legends of outlaws like Jesse James and his brother Frank James to the shadowed halls of Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, the state’s past refuses to stay buried.

But Missouri’s paranormal reputation extends far beyond ghosts. Reports of Shadow People, unexplained UFO sightings, and the enduring legend of Jim the Wonder Dog add layers of mystery that defy easy explanation. These stories aren’t isolated—they form a pattern that suggests Missouri may be one of the most paranormally active regions in the country.

In this episode of The Grave Talks, we’re joined by Jason Offutt, a longtime researcher of Missouri’s supernatural history. Having grown up in a haunted farmhouse himself, Jason brings both personal experience and years of investigation to the conversation. Together, we explore Missouri’s haunted past, the legends that continue to intrigue and terrify, and why the Show-Me State keeps showing us that the unknown is closer than we think.

There's the ghosts of Jesse James and his brother Frank, who by the way,

seems to haunt more than one location. There's the very haunted Limp mansion in St. Louis,

0:28.4

a haunted Civil War battlefield by Springfield. I'm Carol Hughes, and on this episode of the

0:34.7

Grave Talks, we'll talk about those hauntings and more with author

and paranormal journalist Jason Offit.

0:43.1

So Jason, I would love to talk to you about how your interest in the paranormal started

0:48.8

because you've written paranormal nonfiction books and you've done some research around where you live in Missouri,

0:56.2

and it makes me think you have something that's happened to you that made all of this kind of

1:02.2

a passion and something you wanted to research and write about. Well, I think everyone who is

1:08.7

interested in the paranormal has had some experience. And if they

1:14.4

haven't, they've had, you know, grew up listening to experiences that grandma or grandpa had.

1:19.5

And they tell those stories. And with me, I grew up on a farm and I lived in a 120-year-old

farmhouse.

1:28.3

My family was as there are no such things as ghost as you could possibly get.

1:33.2

My mom entertained my passion for weird stuff, but she'd never seen anything.

1:41.4

So she didn't think ghosts were real.

1:43.2

But I had a couple of occurrences in that

1:46.1

house that told me, yes, these things are real. And one was innocent enough. I was probably nine

1:56.9

years old. And I walked out of my bedroom into the hallway to where we had all our
