I am Jason Romano.

Today we look back on a conversation from September of 2020 with Grammy Award-winning

hip-hop artist Lecrae.

And we talked about a lot of things as he shared

about his love for the NBA, meeting Michael Jordan, what it means to be restored, how he came to

faith in Christ and why it feels so important, why he felt it was so important to bring awareness

to social justice issues. If you remember in 2020, so much going on, right,

with the pandemic and the social unrest, the political unrest. So this was a really interesting time

to talk to Lecrae. I thought the clip that would be fun to bring back for today's sports

spectrum minute, though, was how he got connected to the world of basketball

and the NBA, and this is a guy who played basketball. But I think that's what LaCray,

and that's where LeCray really got put on the map as far as like sort of a nationwide audience,

obviously with his music, but being connected to guys like

Stefan Curry and others.

So this was LeCray from September of 2020 on Sports Spectrum's podcast, talking about his

intersection of his music, his faith, and the world of sports.

It's something that I really desired, you know, being a basketball fan, being an NBA fan.

I found that I had a lot of fans in baseball. I'd had fans in football, which I was grateful for.

But I was like, man, what is it about the NBA? Why can I seem to penetrate this space in this world?

And so I never forget, you know, seeing, for me, it was seeing coach Bobby Jackson

bring me back to meet the team during practice one day.
