We begin in the Middle East, this time the Hezbollah front in the north of Israel.

The number of sorties by the Israelis over these last several days is in the thousands. We're looking at, however,

a tactic that we're told has been developed since the failure of the 2006 war against Hezbollah. Intelligence

gathering and using the Air Force to destroy launchers. Yes missiles are are destroyed, but launchers. There are not enough

launchers to maintain a barrage if they are cut down the way right now they're

being cut down. I don't have numbers I just have to say.

If you're going to shoot the arrow, shoot the bow. That's what they're doing.

The mess- it started with the messenger services and the walkie-talkies and the radios,

and then it moved to the air war.

Now your ground forces.

I was taught in all the books since the second war.

Air wars don't win wars.

They make you feel good initially, but they're not for winning.

Is that your understanding as well, Jeff?

That's truly my understanding, John, but of course one has to define what

winning is.

In this particular case, I think the Israelis at least are attempting to do what I would call

escalate to de-escalate.

And you know, we've conjectured before when the pager attacks occurred and the walkie talkie

...
