Summary
The documentary “Nothing To Lose” is out today, telling the behind-the-scenes story of the 2025 Leadville 100! And we thought it was a great time to try something new. In this episode, we do a rewatch, providing commentary and hot takes throughout.
You can listen to this episode as a standalone good-vibes celebration. OR, you can watch the documentary for a second time with this episode playing through your headphones like an old-school DVD commentary. It’s a celebration, and who are we to tell you how to party?
Director Cody Bare created such a cool work of art. We are so proud of him and wanted to fully uplift his work. That ended up including a lot of talk about butts and other private parts. Cody would appreciate it. And trust us, he has seen it all.
Thank you all so much for being here for the journey. “Nothing To Lose” tells the story of hitting rock bottom as an athlete, and what might be waiting on the other side. It’s an hour of lows and highs, humor and tears, and some of the most beautiful trail shots we have ever seen.
None of it would have been possible without you. We love you all!
The rewatch starts at 3:22. The butt appears at 20:27.

| 0:00.0 | Huzzah! Welcome to the Summer Call Play bonus episode here on Patreon and possibly on the main podcast as well. |
| 0:07.3 | Oh, hell yeah. Happy Thursday. It's Thursday. And guess what? We get to hit replay again. |
| 0:14.9 | Yeah, this is so exciting. So this is the release date for the documentary, Nothing to Lose about Leadville. |
| 0:20.2 | So we thought, |
| 0:21.4 | what a great time to do something totally different that may or may not work. The reason this might |
| 0:26.8 | just only be on Patreon is it might eat a brick. We got to believe. Believe in the brick. |
| 0:31.7 | I was going to say should a brick. But same. I mean, if you're going to shut a brick, you got to eat a brick. |
| 0:35.9 | Yeah, yeah, exactly. So the way this is going to work is we're going to just start playing the documentary on our side. And if you want, you can play the documentary for a second time watching it or listen. Or you can just listen to this on your run, hopefully get some weird vibes. It might be a little trippy at times. Who knows? |
| 0:56.3 | Oh, that's cool. I like listening to it on your run. It's like visualizing. You can visualize what's going on out there. |
| 1:01.6 | Yeah, exactly. And so before we start, I just want to do a quick tribute to director Cody Bear. This is his art. You know, we are just people in the movie documentary he did. We are certainly |
| 1:14.5 | not the creators. But what he did is so special. And watching it and doing the final review of it today, |
| 1:20.9 | I was just like, wow, he is an amazing artist. And so we wound up with that as much as we can, |
| 1:26.2 | give it as big of a platform as we can, because this guy has come in and just taken risk after risk after risk that I think culminates in this documentary for this moment in ultra running's history. |
| 1:37.9 | Actually, as a non-artist, very much aggressively a non-artist, it kind of blows my mind, the artistic process of how this happens, both from a time perspective, like, there is thought and attention into every frame. And actually, for me, like, as soon as I watched this multiple times, I started to see that attention. And I feel like, you know, if you're tuning into this for a second time, maybe a third time, like, see that artistic detail, because it took me a few times watching it through to be like, whoa. Yeah. Like, it really truly blew my mind, like, see that artistic detail because it took me a few times watching it through |
| 2:01.0 | to be like, whoa. Yeah. Like, it really truly blew my mind, like, some of the choices he made and some of the, like, mountain imagery and how he captured those shots. And so, man, cheers to being an artist. Cheers. I have no idea how he does it. Yeah. Most of it is lost on me to be 100% fair, but I'm told by people that are experts in audio. |
| 2:19.9 | And all of these other elements of this art, it's just mind-blowingly good. |
| 2:25.7 | So we'll see. |
| 2:27.4 | Either way, this will be a fun little experiment. |
| 2:29.8 | So what do you say we click play relatively soon and we'll give a countdown to everyone so they can click play to or not. But this conceit, we're just going to run with it. I like it. It feels like a race. Are we going to count down and like do like a lead bill countdown? They had a gun at leadville. They had a gun. They fired a gun. We don't have a gun in our recording studio. Actually, we don't have a gun anywhere in our vicinity. Exactly. That's a good thing, which I think is a perfect way to start. |
| 2:52.1 | So we're going to start in press play. |
| 2:54.5 | Hold on. |
| 2:54.7 | We need to. Actually, we don't have a gun anywhere in our vicinity. Exactly. That's a good thing, which I think is a perfect way to start. |
