I did not see that one coming.

I have to tell you.

I know a lot about Jimmy Carter.

I've read a lot.

I did not know how close he got to dying after the last guinea worm.

You know, you just taught me that, too, Ellie.

I did not know that.

What's very clear, though, is that Jimmy Carter did more after his presidency, did more good after his presidency than any other president.

And it's not close.

That some of us do in our lives.

So I am glad for the tribute that we're all going to be offering him over the course of the next week.

an American military veteran who killed 168 people, including 19 children, in a terrorist attack

on a federal building in Oklahoma City.

Timothy McVe parked a truck outside that building loaded with explosives

in an act of homegrown American terrorism.

Timothy McVeigh's hatred of the American government was not tamed in any way by his service in the American military.

So, too, with America's latest terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Eve, with an American military veteran driving a pickup truck through a crowd to murder 14 people. The American military
