I'm John Batchelor to Lancaster County, the best county in the Keystone State,

Jim McTag reporting the economy and Lancaster County.

This is a very old Revolutionary War city surrounded by a suburb that is growing quickly. Jim lives in a perfect community

with sinkholes and he travels often around the region at diners, famous diners, new

diners, because there's a lot of tourism in Lancaster County, particularly this time of year.

Jim, I begin with the tourism question because over these last

weeks, you've reported the weather has turned inclement often with heavy rains that are said by

some to have discouraged tourists, but now you tell me that tourism base is returning or was always

there and we couldn't see it for the rain clouds.

How do you see tourism right now? Do you see it heavily in the hotels and the diners? Good evening

to you. Good evening, John. It's pretty heavy, especially on the weekends. And you can tell if you go

to the hotel websites, they've all jacked up their prices.

But I went out for a drive today because I believe an eyewitness to the economy is better than the federal statistics.

I went one of the favorite tourist hotels, it's called the Robert Fulton Inn.

The exterior looks like a riverboat that Mark Twain

may have piloted on the Mississippi River. It has 97 rooms. Why Robert Fulton in the middle

of cornfields? He was born about five minutes away in Lancaster County. But anyway, all 97 rooms are full.

The parking lot, I did a license plate examination, a lot of New York State, Maryland, Delaware,

and even Ontario, Canada.

Wow, a Canadian in Lancaster County.

So I went for breakfast down the road at the Route 30 diner, which was built in 1951.
