Summary

On the one hand, the Lakers responded with a significantly better effort on Tuesday, in the wake of Sunday's utter debacle against New Orleans. But nonetheless, the results weren't any different. Dallas beat them, doing what 10 of their last 13 opponents have to the Lakers. LeBron played a better game, and got a little support from Carmelo Anthony, but Russell Westbrook was a disaster offensively, and Malik Monk's slump continued. Frank Vogel tried out a new starting lineup and a new rotation, but again it didn't really matter. Why? Are there any more levers to pull? Is there a combination of players the Lakers could use that would make a significant difference? Running out of time to find out, as the Lakers slip dangerously close to the 10th seed, and even the possibility of missing the play in tournament, entirely. Meanwhile, after it was over, Westbrook looked totally despondent. And while his play deserves all the criticism it is getting, on a human level it was hard not to feel some sympathy for the guy. This stretch in LA, which was supposed to be a grand and uplifting homecoming, has been a disaster. Finally, the Lakers signed forward Wenyen Gabriel and guard DJ Augustin.
