NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

Today marked the trial, the start of the trial of Lake and Riley.

And the person on the thumbnail to the right is Jose Ibarra.

And this is the state of Georgia versus Jose Ibarra for the murder of Lake and Riley.

A case that is really highly charged and very much sort of not just shocked the University of Georgia

campus, the state of Georgia, but the entire

country. And we're just without getting into the politics of it.

Jose Ibarra is probably what we would consider in this country as a career criminal.

And what bothers me about this is that not only was he in this country illegally,

but there was no vetting done whatsoever on this guy to check his background.

And it turns out he's a gangbanger and he's a career criminal in Venezuela.

He is a hunter.

He is a sex offender.

He probably has murdered and committed sex offenses in his home country.

How would we know that? How would we

possibly know that when no one checks that out? You know, one of my things, of course, of being a

27-year veteran of the NYPD, to me, public safety is one of the most important things that government provides.

And when they refuse to provide it by allowing our borders to be breached by people

who are criminals, career criminals, and they don't protect our citizenry.

To me, that is absolutely horrific.
