Summary
Despite Total Direct Energie doing their best to reduce the gap to the breakaway from 5 minutes to 90 seconds on today's stage 14 of the Vuelta a Espana 2020, the rest of the teams in the peloton did not help them out of either apathy or self-interest with a rider up the road in the breakaway. The stage would be decided by a technical 1km 6% climb, with a very sharp corner in the last 25m and with Woods, Wellens, Stybar and Soler in the break, we knew it would be a punchy finale.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge cycling podcast with Benji Nice and this is our recap of stage 14 in the welter |
| 0:06.4 | Espanyu. We only have, well, including this stage, five stages left in the welter because it's only 18 stages. |
| 0:13.2 | It's had to cut out the first three. So lost, I guess, stage 19, 20 and 21. |
| 0:18.8 | But this podcast is brought to you by LeCole, our partner and show host. |
| 0:24.4 | They produce performance cycling apparel. They provide it to Byron McLaren in the pro peloton. |
| 0:29.4 | Their man Byron is, well, Poles is up in GC in top 10 looking pretty good actually. |
| 0:35.6 | I think he'll might even move up a couple of spots if he goes well on stage 17. |
| 0:41.6 | And Benji and I have literally liked the kit. We've got it. I've got some summer kit that I've |
| 0:46.0 | got sent out. I think Benji got also some summer kit, even though Belgium's going into winter. |
| 0:51.1 | So it's in what his thought process was there. But I know he likes it too. |
| 0:55.1 | If you want to check them out, it's www.leco.cc, link in the show notes and the description. |
| 1:03.3 | And yeah, I hope you enjoy this podcast. A lot else going on in the world at the moment. |
| 1:08.4 | But this welter Espanyu stage 14, I don't know if I'm going to say it did its best to distract us from it, |
| 1:15.4 | it didn't. But we'll get into it anyway. |
| 1:19.1 | From Lugo to Orenze 200 Ks, and once when you look at the profile immediately, |
| 1:25.5 | you know, it's not going to make a difference to the GC in a substantive way. No time gaps, |
| 1:30.3 | really possible or major time gaps. Rolly Hills for the first 97 Ks, three cat threes that |
| 1:36.8 | not going to scare anybody sort of 7 Ks at 4 percent, very gradual climbs. And then the finale |
| 1:43.8 | is a twisty 1.1 kilometers at 6.5 percent. And I mean twisty and narrow like three riders wide. |
| 1:51.3 | And then we saw someone posted on Twitter who was at the finish this morning. |
| 1:55.6 | In the last 20 meters, there is a 90 degree left hand turn, which means if you're not first there, |
| 2:02.4 | you ain't winning. So very technical. This was designated by the UCI as not a mass sprint. |
