A decade ago, Mireia Ramos was living in New York City doing the classic aspiring artist Hossel,

working a bunch of jobs, playing gigs wherever she could, and dreaming about making it big.

She also put on her black suit with a white embroidery to play violin all over the city,

with her all-women Marietti group.

We went to the first band of Marietti in New York, formed only by women.

At first, we were not very popular.

We played in parties of 15-year-olds, matrimonians and restaurants.

They drove around town in their old, run-down, Mercury Grand Marquis.

And when things were tough, they leaned on each other.

That car brought us to all parties, but there were several problems.

The doors were not closed, and the air conditioning didn't work.

One day, as they were driving around, they thought,

what if we entered that MTV show, Pimp My Ride?

We were the only old woman Marietti band in New York City.

We were explaining the problems of the car, and why we needed it for our work.

The video is still online, the three of them, in front of their grand-marquis,

with flowers in their hair, playing Marietti songs, joking around and begging for a little love for their car.

But when we look for the instructions of how to send the video,

we will understand that the show didn't exist anymore.

It was 2009, and the show Pimp My Ride had been canceled two years earlier.

We were still using the Grand Marquis for several years.

It was tough going at first, but soon Mireia's luck would start to change.
