There was this Texas Ranger by the name of Bill McDonald who was sent to Dallas with orders

to break up in a legal boxing match. Upon arrival, the nervous mayor

asked McDonald where the others were. You know, where are your fellow Rangers? To which he replied,

hell, ain't I enough? I mean, there's only one prize fight. Or so the legend goes. I guess the

idea was that one rough situation or one rough town only called from one Texas Ranger.

And while that is largely myth, it ain't that far-fetched. Ranger McDonald himself stared down angry mobs all on his own.

So did legendary Ranger Frank Hamer. Both men put their lives on the line more than once to protect innocent people and prisoners, criminals, and they weren't the only ones.

From the very beginning is the last line of defense against hostile Comanches, to the Mexican-American War, where the Rangers earned the nickname Los Diablo Tejanos and beyond.

These brave men donned the badge and saved countless lives. According to

records from 1895, in just one year, the Texas Rangers scouted over 170,000 miles, made nearly

700 arrests, returned 2,800 head of stolen livestock to the owners, assisted civil authorities 162 times, and guarded

jails on 13 occasions.

We're talking about a law enforcement organization so famous, so legendary, that the German

press even mistakenly reported that Texas Ranger paratroopers had invaded France during
