In the car scene during this time period the people who wanted to go fast were into

hot rods and drag racing. Then there were the people on the other side of the spectrum

who prioritized style and cruising the boulevards.

This group was into customs, also known as lead sled sleds.

Custom cars of the 50s were truly a personalized

mechanical expression of the owner and builder. They had names like

copper cart or candy coop and had lavish custom interior upholstery and resty

styled bodywork such as chop tops, French lights and molded grills. There were

thousands of these custom cars cruising the streets and several magazines that covered them like

custom cars and rotten custom. But by the mid-1960s the scene was essentially gone. Where did these
