We use the word history way too much in sports, and I've been guilty of doing this throughout

my career, but

boy, did we see some history on Monday night. The Kansas Jayhawks for the first time ever in the

history of Allen Fieldhouse beat the number one team in the country as they take down

the Arizona Wildcats in what was just a sensational game that probably, and I've watched a lot

of great college basketball games,

it probably looked better than it actually was because we had to sit through that

unbelievably terrible Super Bowl the night before.

The Kansas Jayhawks win this one, 8278, and it had everything.

Complete and utter drama with Darren Peterson not playing again, and we'll get to that because it was the story of the night. If Arizona was just going to go out and they built a lead early in the game, and by at one point I think they were up 11 over Kansas. And if they went on and just won the game and the number one hit, the whole story would be Darren Peterson. But now the narrative completely changes about Darren Peterson when you're asking

yourself, if you're beating the number one team in the country and celebrating like this and

playing well enough to do that, although Bill Self has said they certainly can play better than this,

if you're doing that without him, what does it mean? Where do you go? How do you finish this season off?

Because there's something really, really different and interesting about this Kansas team. They were not picked to be a great team this year by a lot of folks. Although I thought in the very beginning, and I bet a couple of buddies, I said, for me, it's come down to like a two-man game. If Kansas has two guys and one-hams, Flory Bedunga down low playing defense like he does, if it's two-end game and Peterson's the best player in the NBA draft, I said, they're going to be a good team. That those two, I'll take any other three guys out on the floor with those two and Bill self-coaching that team. Well, on this night it was Melvin Counsel Jr. and Flory Bonunga, and it absolutely worked. And I just, I guess I'm a little bit

shocked that it's the first time Kansas has beaten the number one team in the country at Allen

Fieldhouse. Oh, and five in previous attempts. The last time they beat in number one, they beat

Kansas State in 1953. And that was before Allen Fieldhouse, which is just, like I said,

historical and almost unthinkable.

Again, the drama before the game with Darren Peterson not playing in Kansas falling behind,

you thought, okay, this team has had enough of this.
