author of a Prussian book about Putin in Syria once upon a time.

That wasted land was a prelude to the conflagration we now see throughout the Middle East that is growing larger all the time.

I welcome Anna to comment. The news is that Iran is selling missiles in some fashion to Moscow,

to use in Ukraine, we presume.

And it begins to appear that we've not got two wars, one in Ukraine and one in Gaza or, but one more altogether.

Does Russia want to run this from Moscow? Russia in charge of this moving pieces its ally

Iran it's a depredation of Ukraine it's threat to widen the war with nuclear missiles, is this Russian thinking?

Oh, good evening, and as always, John Malcolm, it's such a pleasure to be on your show. I think from the Russian state perspective, it is all one war.

It is all one war and Ukraine is the priorities. It is a chief foreign policy objective but in order for Russia to win this war it is

looking at multiple theaters and certainly the Middle East is one core theater.

The fact of the matter is, the Middle East is part of what we would call the quote unquote

global South.

And the global South, by and large, is simply has not bought the

Western narrative on the war in Ukraine and on Russia. At best it's been throwing Russia a lifeline. So really the the sub core of people of

this global battle is is for this global South. It is to Russia's advantage to

drive chaos across the Middle East.

And it's not simply, in other words, it's not simply taking advantage of it,

it's actively adding fuel to the fire.
