The subject of my investigation is a tragic story of a woman named Lolitha Hall who was shot and killed while making an Uber pickup, her killer, an 81-year-old man.

Why did he do it?

Here's the story.

81-year-old Bill Brock thought he was trapped in a nightmare when threatening scam calls came to his South Charleston, Ohio home.

Someone claiming to be a court official told him a relative was jailed and demanded money, threatening to harm if he didn't pay.

Unknown to Brock, that same scammer or an accomplice, used the Uber app to send a 61-year-old

driver named Lolitha Hall to his house to pick up a package. Hall, who had no connection to the scam,

unwittingly became the face-to-face link in a dangerous deception.

When she arrived, authorities say Brock pulled a gun, took her phone, and blocked her exit.

Hall tried to leave and during the encounter was shot three times. She later died at a hospital.

Brock called 911 after the shooting.

Prosecutors have indicted him on murder,

kidnapping, and felonious assault charges.

He has pleaded not guilty

and faces the possibility of life in prison.
