Wall Street Journal, she's taking us to a heart of Pennsylvania that is revelatory,

Luzerin County, and Wilkes-Baron- Lusarin County. This is just down the road from Stratton. It's

eastern Pennsylvania, where I come from. Salina comes from Western Pennsylvania.

But Luzerin has gone through a transformation I learned from Salinas column over these last decades

that is indicative of what Pennsylvania was that I grew up in back in the 1950s and what it has become today, why it is the bell

weather. More than that, it is the election of 2024. The candidate who wins Pennsylvania is in the White House in January of 2025.

Lezern County, what does it reveal about the transformation from there to here?

So Luzerin County is a very beautiful bucolic but also industrial county. It has if you wanted to look up the

definition of the New Deal Democrat coalition which sprung up during the 1930s around

FDR and the Great Depression and the Union Movement.

Luzerne is that place.

It was the home of the Welsh,

a big Welsh population still does that worked in the coal mines.

But also there were shoe factories and dress, and steel mills.

This is a county where people got their hands dirty

when they worked and came home and,

and, you know, lived their lives with their families

and belonged to places like elks clubs and
