Well, I guess we know her as Olivia Pope or as Anita Hill,

or the terrific film she did Little Fires Everywhere.

She's also a best-selling author.

The last time I saw her was on stage in the David Mammett play Race.

I think so often when I think of my guest, Carrie Washington, I think of her as a fighter and playing

roles of women who are fighters. And even in her book, her bestselling book, she talked about the

fight to find and maintain and hold on to herself. So she's here to talk about her new movie,

which she gets to do some real fighting. Some actual physical fighting. Some fighting. Shadow Force, first of all, it is a pleasure to have you here.

It's so good to see you and an honor to be here.

You are so often attracted to roles of women who fight, who stand up for themselves.

And I want to talk about where that comes from because you don't get asked that question a lot.

It's interesting. I love that you say that because for me, why Shadow Force is so different is because

I have often played women who are intellectually strong, spiritually strong, emotionally

strong.

But this is the first time I've played maybe in 20 years that I've played a character who is so

physically strong, where her strength, she is those things as well. She's very smart.

She's very brave. But she is physically a beast. And so it was a different kind of preparation

for me. And I was actually writing my memoir thicker than water while we were filming.
