Summary

Decades after the Holocaust, we continue to learn new details about what took place and how the world did (and didn’t) react. This edition looks at a new film on what the U.S. leaders and the public knew before and during the war.  Mosheh speaks to documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and his co-director Sarah Botstein, who have produced some of the most highly-acclaimed documentaries in television history. We discuss their newest documentary, "The U.S. and the Holocaust" - which casts a critical light on America’s actions in the lead up and and in response to, one of history's greatest horrors. The film looks at WWII-era America, including how prominent politicians, journalists, and celebrities reacted to the atrocities of the Holocaust, and how it shaped U.S. history. We also look at American anti-immigrant and anti-semitic sentiment in the leadup to and after the Holocaust, as well as how US government treatment of Black and Native Americans may have inspired some of Adolf Hitler’s policies. – Please remember to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review. – Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
