It's been a busy week for Mayor Katie Wilson and her constituents have a lot of expectations.

The new mayor promised to tackle some of the city's biggest issues.

We'll hear from KUOWW politics reporter Scott Greenstone on what to look for in Wilson's first few months leading the city.

But first, let's get you caught up.

Seattle Public Schools has opened up the application process for school choice.

Beginning this month, families can apply to attend a school that's outside their neighborhood.

Axios reports the district opened the application window earlier than ever to reduce uncertainty for families.

This year, families will learn about their school assignment by the end of February,

rather than waiting until April. For kids who end up on a wait list for their top school,

they'll be notified by the end of May. By the way, there's an enrollment fair this Saturday

at district headquarters. Local hospitals are in urgent need of donated blood, according to an

alert from Blood Works Northwest.

Bloodworks has declared a code red emergency shortage.

That means they have less than a one-to-two-day supply of critical blood types.

They especially need type O blood and platelets.
