Hey everyone, I'm Andrea Ferretti and this is episode 26 of Yoga Land.

On today's episode I talk to Kate Holcomb. If you're not familiar with Kate,

she's like the unsung hero in my yoga world at least.

And she calls herself the accidental yoga and she tells that story, which is kind of funny.

She is a yoga teacher and founder of the Healing Yoga Foundation in

San Francisco and she is a direct student of TKV Desicachar so if you're not familiar with who that is, I'll give you like a quick yoga history primer.

Desicachar was Krishnamacharya's son, and Krishnamacharya is responsible for teaching Desicchar and then before him

two other teachers Sri Patabe Joyce who was the founder of the Ashjanga Yoga

lineage and BKs. Ayangar who was the founder of the Ayangar

lineage and so Krishnamacharya's students were really those three students

he said he obviously taught many more more people than that but those

three students are kind of like the grandfathers of yoga in America in the West

so Kate sort of accidentally ended up being a very close student of TKV Desica Charrs and

studied with him for many years in India and was so close to him that he called her his American daughter, which is so sweet.

And one of the main things that Desicachar conveyed to Kate was the teachings of the Yoga

Sutra. So she is an absolute authority and expert on the Yoga Sutra and it's

something that I've always wanted to learn from her directly and I have
