Conversations like the one today are the reason I got into podcasting. On today's show, we have

Carl Meltzer. He probably needs no introduction, but as a courtesy to the one or two maybe listeners,

not in the loop, I'll give one anyways. Carl is, was one of the first runners in this sport that

truly go pro. He specialized early in the 100-mile event

back in the late 90s, and to date, he's won over 40, which is a record. And I think that includes

one every year for the last 19 years, which is also a record. He's been a runner for Hoka Onioneone

for the past decade, and he's built one of the most popular trail shoes of all time, the

speed goat, which I'm sure many of you run in to this day. He's also a race director for the

popular speed goat 50K at the snowbird ski resort here in Salt Lake City, Utah. And perhaps most

importantly, he's just a guy you'd want to have a beer with. And I think that shines through

in this conversation. He just brings so much awesome perspective. And I felt like we could have talked for hours. We do some analysis on UTMB, especially with regard to what it's going to take for more American men to have success there. We talk about race directing and advice he has for aspiring

race directors. We speculate on a potential new 100 mile race in the central Wasatch. That was really

fun. And we reflect on what it takes to make a career out of this sport. I won't spoil anything

for you, but really this was one of my favorite conversations
