Summary

Groups including Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and Reproductive Freedom for All are banding together to form Abortion Access Now, an alliance focused on restoring protections for abortion care on the federal level. The new coalition is marking the second anniversary of the fall of Roe v. Wade with a pledge to spend $100 million on a national, 10-year campaign. But the coalition is finding fractures within the Democratic Party about how to best proceed with protecting abortion. Health care reporter Alice Miranda Ollstein walks Playbook co-author Ryan Lizza through what to know about her scoop. Plus what we're watching during Tuesday's primary elections out West. That, plus all the rest of the news you need to know today.

Good morning, everyone. I'm Playbook co-author, Ryan Lizza. It's Monday, June 24th, and here's what's driving the day.

Overnight, Reuters broke the news that prosecutors at the Department of Justice have recommended to their superiors that Boeing should be criminally charged in the case about whether the company violated an

0:22.7

agreement related to two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. DoJ has until July 7th to make a final

0:31.8

decision on that matter. We'll be watching that closely today. Colorado, Utah, and New York hold primaries tomorrow.

There's a ton of intrigue with national implications in House, Senate, and gubernatorial races across those three states.

This morning in Playbook, we break down what you should be watching at West in Colorado and Utah.

Tomorrow, we're going to tackle New York. In Utah, we're watching four

0:56.2

big races. The first is the gubernatorial primary, where incumbent Governor Spencer Cox is likely

1:03.4

to prevail. The main question we're watching really is, will Trump make an election Eve

1:08.9

endorsement today? Cox is a Trump critic. Trump, interestingly,

1:13.4

has not endorsed his right-wing election-denying opponent, Phil Lyman, even though Trump pardoned Lyman

1:20.7

in 2020. There's also a Senate primary where Trump did endorse. That's to replace Mitt Romney that race. And we'll be

1:29.8

watching very closely to see if Trump's favored candidate, Trent Stags, the mayor of Riverton, Utah,

1:35.8

is able to make a race against Representative John Curtis. Curtis is leaving the House to run for

1:43.5

Senate. He's heavily favored. And he's the sort of Romney-like

1:46.8

candidate in that race. So we're watching that closely again, Utah, not exactly a state that always

1:53.1

listens to Trump. Finally, two house races to watch. Utah, three, won't get into all the details,

1:59.7

but one of the interesting things about that

2:01.6

race is Ukraine has become an issue. This is the seat that Curtis left. Curtis supported aid to

2:06.9

Ukraine. There are several people running in that race to replace Curtis who said they would

2:12.9

oppose aid to Ukraine. So watch that one closely. Finally, Utah 2, essentially a proxy battle between

2:19.5

Senator Mike Lee and Speaker Mike Johnson. Trump has lined up with Mike Johnson and endorsed
