Fox. And now you have celebrated the 4th of July and I hope that you and your families had a great holiday.

I have begun to look at Independence Day a little bit differently to be sure.

I want to remember that aspirational clause, that aspirational paragraph, we hold these truths to be self-evident. clause that with certain unalienable rights that among these are life at liberty and the

pursuit of happiness that is so incredibly aspirational and as we seek to

continue to perfect this union,

that's a clause that I hope each of us will reflect upon.

I look at it a little bit differently, That's our country's independence, but we are a country made up of people, of individuals, and it is not unreasonable that we would ask ourselves about our own sort of

of independence, our own liberty, our own day that we celebrate.

So I think about those three words, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

And maybe it just goes'm at the stage where two-thirds of life is is probably gone and if I'm lucky I've got a third left

But just to be thankful for this gift called life. There's a reason that Thomas Jefferson put

life before liberty and the pursuit of happiness because it is

primary it is fundamental it is that thing from which all else

springs so I was talking to Tim Scott a couple of days ago. We're almost

exactly the same age about this gift of life and what have we done with it. And I view it as being given a blank canvas.

We're just given a canvas and each of us were given different paints. I was given no
