A reading from the book of First Chronicles.

As for the divisions of the gatekeepers,

of the Korahites,

Meshalamaya, the son of Khoray, of the sons of Asif.

And Meshalamaya had sons,

Zechariah the firstborn,

Jadaya L. 2nd, Zebediah the 3rd,

Jathniel the 4th, Elam the 5th, Jehoanan the 6th, Eliehoanae, the 7th.

And Obid Edom had sons, Shamae the firstborn, Jehoshabad the 2nd, Joa the 3rd, Saker

the 4th, Nethanail the 5th, Amiel the 6th, Issaacur the 7th,

Pheulethai the 8th, for God blessed him.

Also to his son Shimea were sons born, who were rulers in their father's houses,

for they were men of great ability.

The sons of Shemaiah, Athene, Raphael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers were able men,

Elihu, and Semekiah. All these were of the sons of Obid Edom, with their sons and brothers.

Abel men qualified for the service,

62 of Obid Edom. And Meshalamaya had sons and brothers, able men, 18. And Hosa of the sons of Mirari had sons. Shimri the chief, for though he was not the firstborn, his father made

him chief, Hilkaya the second, Tebuliah the third, Zechariah the fourth, all the sons and brothers

of Hosa were 13. These divisions of the gatekeepers corresponding to their chief men had duties, just as their brothers did, ministering in the house of the Lord.

And they cast lots by father's houses, small and great alike, for their gates.

The lot for the east fell to Shalamaya.

They cast lots also for his son, Zechariah, a shrewd counselor, and his lot came out
