My guest, director, Julian Temple, chronicled the beginning of punk with the great rock and roll swindle.

And now it's come around, gosh, 30 years later, just about to detailing the life of another punk icon, a punk rock warlord, as he defines himself the movie, Joe Strummer.

Pleasure. Tell me about the first time you met Joe, because he's in Glastonbury, your other

doc, and I wonder how far back your time goes with him. Well, I knew of Joe in the squatting

era in West London, you know, when the whole of London, that part of Joe in the squatting era in West London,

you know, when the whole of London, that part of London seemed to be full of rotting mansions

that all you had to do was kick the door in and live there and leave home.

That was the great thing.

You left home in those days.

Now they stayed home to about 45 years old.

You couldn't afford that part of town anymore.

No, that part of town's out of bounds.

But then it was a kind of magic planet.

And Joe's band, the one-on-one's, was the kind of band of that area.

I'm doing a lot of benefits for people there.

And so I knew of Joe.

I also knew of a house with steps where you could find pints of milk in the morning if you were up late or up early, whichever.
