Good to humans. It's Josh versus the news. A little weekly check-in about some of the stories that are being

reported perhaps in ways that we might find suboptimal in the mainstream press or stories that you haven't

even paid any attention to. What's going on this week? Ladies and gents, I'd like to hear your

thoughts and chat with me in the comments. Here in Sydney, there isn't much else to talk about,

which is somewhat strange because it's not like we were unaware

that jihadist attacks or anti-Semitic attacks were on the cards.

It just sort of feels weird when your city and your community and your safe space is the

lottery ball that gets picked out of the vast cosmic bucket and becomes the place that the rest of

the world is going to be talking about because of some atrocity.

I definitely have some thoughts about anti-Semitism, about the Australian government,

about the Australian culture's response and what we could have done better and what we can do better moving forward.

But I also don't want to overlook the big story of the week, which is on everyone's mind,

which is the great snail theft in France, where shop owners say that thieves have stolen

a half a ton of snails from a boutique snail breeding house.

Not quite the heist of the Louvre, but in this little village in northeastern France,

more than 100,000 US dollars worth of escargo were stolen from a local farm,

just as the prime holiday snail eating season began.

So apparently, the French eat about 20 million kilos, 37 million pounds of snails every year.

There are a lot of small snail farmers in France.

A lot of the consumption happens around Christmas and New Year. There are lots of holiday escargo recipes in French magazines. And now one of the biggest escargo farms in France has been

knocked off. You know, an inside job. I mean, not from the

farm themselves, but obviously someone who knows the escargo industry, because they're able to go in
