It is three minutes after ten. And I think as a program that is often dedicated to detailing the scale of the problem that the country faces as a consequence in large part of putting an entirely inappropriate man in Downing Street, we should begin with a word of thanks to Boris Johnson. These are very, very dark times. These are very difficult times and they are, I think,

almost certain to get worse before they get better. And Boris Johnson, in direct contrast to the

Ukrainian leader, has got into power and become a comic comedian or a clown, as opposed to being a

comedian or a clown before achieving power and then turning

out to be a rather brilliant and inspirational man. So I think we should take a moment this morning

to give credit where credit is due because my goodness me, if we didn't need a little giggle at this

stage in world politics, then I don't know when we would have done. So thank you Boris Johnson

for knighting Gavin Williamson.

I think on a day of bleak and almost undilutedly bad news,

making us laugh as hard as we have at the news of Gavin Williamson,

the Russians should go away and shut up.

That Gavin Williamson has now been knighted by Boris Johnson.

And I think we will allow ourselves, all things being equal, to ask why.

At 12 o'clock today, Gavin Williamson has been knighted.

Sir, fail a lot, I believe, is going to become his professional name.

Fired effectively by Theresa May for breaching her trust and allegedly leaking sensitive information

and dismissed from his next job of Secretary of State for Education by Boris Johnson for being

rubbish, I think is a technical term, for being an absolute skipfire of a Secretary of State,

and now somehow rewarded with a knighthood for services to something. That's the question we'll be asking from 12. Although

I'll give you an early clue. He was Chief Whip when Boris Johnson was Foreign Secretary and

nobody except MI5 and MI6 knows more secrets about the British government and its members than the chief whip of the governing party.

Could be a coincidence, may well be, that we turn our attention at 12 to the question of how the hell.
