Let's tell people up front, why should we know about Ring Lardner?

What's special about him?

Lardner was one of the great journalists and sports writers and writers generally of the first part of the 20th century.

And he's born and raised in Michigan, which is kind of neat for those of us sitting here

at Hillsdale College.

But he made his name for himself in Chicago and became a national figure.
