We're going to be talking a lot of Michigan basketball on this particular podcast. But welcome back to the podcast, Brian. I want to talk some football first.

Let's do it. John, always glad to be here.

Well, obviously, Michigan with a sort of a momentous ending to this season, beat Ohio State,

and then they take care of business in that Big Ten championship game. Your impressions of what this team did and switching from that super high of beating Ohio State to just all business and really handling Iowa and taking them in a way so that it was pretty deflating for the Hawkeyes, I thought, with what the defense was doing and holding them in a way so that it was it was pretty deflating for the hawkies i thought uh with what the defense

was doing and holding them in yeah i mean it was funny i had joked with a few people uh in the week

between the ohio state game and the big ten championship game that you know there aren't many

times where you have to legitimately ask the question uh is this a trap game when you're

playing for a league championship?

But because of the year-long build to the Ohio State game, the beat Ohio drills,

the what are you doing to beat Ohio State signs around the facility, there was at least that potential for it.

But this team, it was a coronation.

This team was not going to be denied.

That felt like the final Big Ten hurdle was Ohio State. And Iowa just happened to run into a buzz

saw. And listen, it could have been a different game and a different pace to it and a different

nervousness to it. Had things gone differently in the first 10 minutes, had Iowa taken advantage of

that three and out, had made that field goal, had not given up two big plays, because Michigan's

offense was not thriving outside of those two. But that's what winning teams do. That's what

good ball clubs find a way to execute is a couple of big plays start to pull away. And then what makes

this team so tough is that they can just grind you away, taking clock away, taking the ball

down the field, scoring touchdowns. It's demoralizing. So what Michigan did, it was really the

coronation. Ohio State was the proven moment. They got the job done.

And then Iowa was a 60-minute celebration of what Michigan had done and the complete 180 from a year ago.
