we needed something a little bit different to take the edge off. A bottle of bells not being available, we got the next best thing, Joe Lyses. Joe is one of the biggest comedians in Britain

today, but he's more than that. Partly by accident, partly through circumstance, he has become

something he never thought he would. A political comedian, a campaigner on all

manner of issues, centred in, anchored around his comedy and his own particular ability to get

the public's attention. He's run campaigns on consumer issues, homelessness, and yes, David Beckham

and his connection to the Qataris. Now he's got something new in his sights,

sewage, and specifically Britain's water companies. He, like many, has been incensed with,

revolted by the scandal of an ailing infrastructure repeatedly discharging massive volumes of

sewage into our rivers and seas. This week, he's had a new show on Channel 4 urging us to wake up

and smell the digested coffee. At a time when comedy itself has become a pivot point of politics,

where jokes and who makes them and about what becomes part of the endless, inexorable merry-go-round

culture war, we thought we'd bring you this extended conversation with the man himself.
