Hello, my name is David Ronserman and this is Talking Politics.

And this week I'm talking to Jill LaPore, the historian of America and also one of the

most prolific writers in the New Yorker she writes about everything.

She was in Cambridge to give a lecture about the rise and fall of the fact.

It was a history of fact checking and it was actually terrifying.

So she was here on the day of Trump's inauguration and as you'll hear in a minute we spoke just

a couple of hours before he took to the stage and this is the week that added a new term

to our political dictionary alternative facts to go with post-truth because Donald Trump's

press spokesman is insisting that more people turned up to see him inaugurated than any

other president in history and that's not true but apparently it's an alternative fact.

Josh Simons was there and he recorded some of the voices and sounds of inauguration day.

Arvind, as well as vice president, President of the United States, and most of the world's

people in the United States.

And what do you think is different about him in comparison to previous ones?

Not being bought by politicians, his own man is going to do a lot of different, bring

down the government to a smaller where the people can control it not the government.

He is going to change everything.

January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation
