Welcome to TrustMe. The podcast about cults, extreme belief, and manipulation from two kids who

have actually experienced it. I am Lola Blanc, adult kid, and my co-adult kid is Megan Elizabeth,

but she is out this week for the intro. But don't worry, she is totally present for the interview,

which is a very exciting interview because today, our guests are Jill Dugger, now known as Jill

Dillard, and her husband Derek Dillard, members of the Dugger family, once stars of reality shows

such as 19 kids and counting, and now, authors of the new memoir, Counting the Cost. Jill's going

to discuss what it was like being a member of the enormous Dugger family as well as the strictly

controlling fundamentalist church, the institute and basic life principles, or IVLP. Jill will tell

us what it was like being on TV at such a young age, how her dad convinced the family that being

on the show was ministry for their church, and therefore none of the kids needed to get paid

while he made millions, and what it was like for her and Derek having their first date on camera.

We'll hear about how Jill was tricked into signing a contract she didn't know existed, the inherent

coercive nature of being on a reality show, and why the show was rebranded after sealed records

were illegally released, publicly describing abuse that she experienced without her consent.
