Hebrews, chapter 13, and I'll read verses 5 through 9.

Let your character be free from the love of money being content with what you have.

For he himself has said, I will never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you.

So that we confidently say, the Lord is my helper.

I'll not be afraid. What shall man do to me? Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you? And considering the result of their conduct, imitate their life, their faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, yes and forever.

Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart

to be strengthened by grace, not by foods through which those who were thus occupied were not benefited.

Let's pray together.

Father, this is my last word from this pulpit in the 1900s, and I long for it to be a saving word and a strengthening word.

An empowering word, a healing word, an encouraging word, a transforming word.

A transforming word, word, a divine word, by your spirit's enablement and by faithfulness

to your revealed word.

So Lord, help me and help us and move in this room I pray so that this moment of worship in the word would be all those things and more. In Jesus

name I pray. Amen. Today is the last Sunday of the 1900s and as most of us are aware the

year 2000 is technically the last year of the 20th century,

but if I read things right,

the significance of the change from this year to next year is far more significant in most people's minds than next December is going to be.

I think it will all be very anticlimactic as we enter the 21st century next December.

Everybody's thinking about it this year.

And so I ask myself the question in response to all the hype and all the apocalyptic alarmism and all the sales of the end timetime novels and all the generators and Y2K

rations and all the by-gold and get on the bandwagon stuff that's out there.
