aesthetics, Gerald Levinson, who's based at the University of Maryland,

thinks the parallels between love and music are manifold.

The topic we're going to focus on today is the erotics of music.

What's a connection?

Well, Eros and music have a lot of things in common.

Among the arts, I think it would be reasonable to think that music is sort of the most sensual,

the one that engages our emotions most directly the one that flows and moves and

evolves in a way that has some some resemblance to love to the essential absorption of

people in love.

So it's different in this respect from other arts, like for instance painting.

To appreciate any artwork or any art form, of course you have to have experience of it, but music in a way that's closer to being

literally true virtually isn't experience, and of course sexuality without experience would not

be sexuality. So there's, there seems to be something about the idea of music and I can

immediate experience that ties it to Eros.
