Hi, I'm Ravi Agrawal, Foreign Policy's Editor-in-Chief. This is FP Live.

Welcome to the show. So I was in Kiev last weekend. I was there for the annual Yalta European

Strategy Conference, where top European and American officials put forward their

strategies to help Ukraine win its war against Russia. There was a real sense that the next few

months could be critical, not only in terms of what happens on the battlefield, but also

electorally, especially in the United States.

Kiev is a beautiful, resilient city. But of late, people there are feeling very real strains.

The sheer number of power outages are beyond disruptive. There are also constant drone warnings

leading to air sirens and people rushing to shelters or basements.

Everyone seems to be using an app to tell you if drones are headed your way.

It's a crazy way to live, but that's war.

And it reinforces a sense of urgency among Ukrainians that they will do whatever it takes

to defend their land. On the other hand, it's becoming increasingly clear that Russia isn't

alone in this war. It receives help from China, as we know. It also gets drones and other equipment

from Iran, but its most significant supplier

may in fact be tiny North Korea. This is a real alliance of autocracies. On the other side,

you have the world's biggest military alliance. NATO has gotten stronger and bigger since the

start of the war, with the inclusion of Finland and Sweden,

and with member states dramatically upping their defense spending.

NATO has been run by Jens Stoltenberg for the last decade.

He steps down on October 1st.

So I sat down with him for an exit interview.
