Right after Sterns and Jennifer, who are in a relationship, reported Madeline missing on Feb. 26, authorities say the mother told them she had seen her daughter that morning before she left for school. New evidence released by prosecutors says that by the next day, the woman had a different account. According to documents, Jennifer told authorities she actually did not see her daughter in the morning, but instead, only the night before. A detective's report says Jennifer told them that around 11 p.m., she "sent (Madeline) and Stephan up to a guest bedroom." She said they had planned to all sleep together in the same room, but instead, Jennifer "stated she needed to get some rest due to her new job making her very tired, she would sleep better alone."
