and we go to Tokyo to be joined by Lance Gattling of Nexial Research to comment on

augmentation of the intention of the Christian government in Tokyo, to poor resources and policy

into defense of Taiwan and East Asia from the aggressor state that would be the people's

Republic of China. But now, augmentation, the aggressor state includes the Russian Federation.

The New York Times headline, Japan affirms plans for deeper regional ties to counter China, subhead,

and in a defense white paper, Tokyo presents its case for engagement with allies to respond to

threats posed by China and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Lance, a very good day to you. You've

Good morning, Gordon and John. This is the next step that Japan has been making very deliberately.

It is fresh in a sense that the defense white paper builds on the previous

national security strategy, the defense strategy, and the defense buildup program. Those

are longer term five to ten-year documents that lay out in broad strokes what Japan is going to do.

The defense white paper is the first white paper since those were promulgated in December of 2022.
