Welcome to the beat everyone. I'm Ari Melbert, and we begin with what has become something really unusual in American life.

0:06.1

And I say that because we've been living through this all together, and we have this January 6th probe that is going to conclude,

0:12.9

and we know they met, and we know they will meet again on Monday. And just to step back from what has become a normalizing of the decline of expectations in American life,

0:24.7

they are meeting, among other things, about whether to refer the former president for a crime.

0:30.9

Now, here's what we know.

0:32.5

The committee chairman says all of the criminal referrals are basically done, meaning internally, they know what they want to do.

0:39.2

But a referral is not like an announcement, certainly not like a tweet. Indeed, while these referrals

0:44.9

are different than contempt proceedings, and we can talk about why, you may recall that this

0:49.9

committee made four contempt-style referrals to the DOJ, and two of them led to indictments.

0:57.0

One of them already a conviction. The other, Peter Navarro, awaits trial on that. So it's not

1:10.1

which we now know will happen.

1:11.7

January 6th committee hearing, Monday, 1 p.m. Eastern. We will learn about some findings that backs up any type of

1:17.8

referral. They are saying more evidence will come out, and we know that every time this committee has

1:22.3

kind of picked its highlights, they've tended to be interesting. And then there's that full final report that I've told you about. That is still on track to be released Wednesday. Now, that's a government report. If they move the date up or later, that's the government's call. But they're saying Wednesday, that voluminous report, people are expecting hundreds of pages, wrapping it all together, the things you may remember from the hearings, and other things you may not have known, will be coming out.

1:46.4

A printing on that, according to the government, is already beginning.

1:49.2

So this is really the conclusion of one of the most consequential congressional investigations ever.

1:54.7

The committee is bipartisan. Bipartisan in the traditional sense of the word, people from both parties.

1:59.6

Not bipartisan in the sense of people

2:01.3

automatically being partisan and disagreeing about everything. This week, we've also seen more

2:06.7

fruits, more evidence from the investigation come out when you look at just the sheer volume
