This is CBSI and the World with Bob Zimmerman behind the black and I'm looking at a photograph

0:10.5

an image of a double quasar from Hubble Space Telescope.

0:15.4

Bob quasar was an invention of the advertising business in the 1960s after the quasars

were first identified by astronomers.

I think they turned it into some kind of television.

0:26.5

Now it's a double quasar.

0:28.6

Why is this significant for Hubble?

0:31.0

Well, in the last decades or so, scientists have concluded that quasars are nothing

0:37.9

more than supermassible at the very, very active in the center of galaxies.

0:44.6

And they're distant galaxies in the early universe.

This is the theory.

0:48.6

But what makes this discovery interesting is that it's a galaxy with two different quasars

in it.

0:55.1

Only two galaxies merge with two quasars, supermassible at colds.

And now these two are in the same galaxy and they eventually merge.

We expect.

1:04.1

There are only about 10,000 light years apart, which is really tiny.

It's the Earth is far from the center of the Milky Way than that.

1:10.4

They're about 10 billion light years away.

1:13.6

And they're very early universe.

1:16.0

This whole setup developed only three billion years after the Big Bang.
