podcast. My name is Dan Club. I'm absolutely delighted to be joined by James Pearce of the

Athletic. Of course, James. How are you? Okay. I'm good. Thanks, Dan. Yourself? Yeah, I can't complain.

Massively, massively appreciated joining me. We're going to do a bit of a whistle stop tour around

the stories thus far and potentially what could happen between now and the transfer

deadline pass and of course which in any normal year will be today tonight but of course it

isn't Friday the 31st of January that's decided to do on a Monday for some reason this time

we'll begin with sort of what happened thus far in the major stories the ones that have actually

had some legs or not as the case may be um it's been a quiet January for Liverpool, obviously, one of assessments and sort of waiting for an opportunity it felt like,

which obviously was sort of the buzzword of the summer as well.

Is that the sense you've got from Liverpool, from the conversations you've had and what you've seen in terms of like there was no urge and sort of panic at all, really,

from Liverpool's point of view to do business

but had something to come along they might have acted yeah that was how it was explained to me

before the window started and it's been exactly how it panned out it was slot said himself

and i remember asking him at a press conference in early January, you know, do you see sufficient

depth in this squad to last the pace? Or do you see gaps that need bolstering? And, and he, he said,

you know, what I told you before the season started, I was happy with everything I had. And he said,

it would be strange if I turn around now and said anything, anything differently. And yeah,

that was the message from behind the scenes was that there wasn't a

particular area that Liverpool felt they needed to bolster.

It was more a case of they're ready and waiting.
