Summary
Jake Bates is a kicker for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. He was undrafted out of the University of Arkansas in 2023 and signed with the Houston Texans before being released after in the preseason. In early 2024, he signed with the Michigan Panthers of the UFL and was selected to the All-UFL team before signing with the Lions in June.
In Week 7 of the 2024 season, Bates was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking the game-winning 44 yard field goal to help Detroit beat Minnesota. In Week 10, Bates kicked a 58-yard field goal against Houston to tie the game late and hit a 52-yard game-winning field goal to help the Lions to a win over the Texans.

He discusses the challenges he faced after being released by the Texans, the importance of prayer in his life and how he aims to glorify God through his actions, both on and off the field.
