On today's show, we turn to New York City, where Zoran Mamdani, Democratic Socialists,

DSA member, and Queen's Assembly member has just won the Democratic primary for mayor

in a stunning upset over former governor Andrew Cuomo.

Mamdani's campaign grounded in rent freezes, public housing, fair free transit,

universal child care, and dignity was powered by volunteers, DSA, immigrant working class groups,

movement politics, not billionaires or political machines. His victory is shaking the Democratic

Party, thrilling progressives,

and sending Wall Street into panic. Joining me to talk about what this means for New York,

for Democratic socialism and for the future of the Democratic Party is Alan Minsky,

executive director of Progressive Democrats of America and longtime organizer and former program director here.

He's argued that Mamdani's win is both the vindication of Bernie-era politics and a challenge

to the party establishment to finally open its doors to the energy and vision of a new generation.

We'll talk about all of that, the movement that got Mamdani here, what kind of may or he might be, whether his victory is replicable across the country, and whether this is the beginning of a new chapter or a flashpoint in the struggle to remake the Democratic Party in our rigid two-party system.
