welcoming Lance Gatling, a principal in nexial research, to help us interpret new headlines about Japan-U-S.

cooperation, anticipating predation by the People's Republic

of China. Dateline, Washington, a U.S. plan to deploy sophisticated missiles on a Japanese island chain

close to Taiwan, prompting angry responses from both China and its close ally, Russia. This is Voice of America.

Lance, a very good evening to you. Thank you very much in Tokyo. Did this make startling headlines in

Tokyo that Russia and China are a double teaming on pointing fingers at Japan? Good evening to you.

Good evening, John. Hello, Gordon. It's not a surprise that the Chinese and the Russians

would take exception to this announcement. The Voice of America article cited a Japanese report

that had picked up from U.S. forces that they have completed a special war plan that

involves a new marine unit, the Marine Littoral Regiment.

And those types of units were actually created to help the Marines fight in the Pacific,

create a defense posture that would, in fact, put the Chinese and the Russians on notice

that the Marines were back in the action.

Rather than the World War II Australian Coast Watchers that hid behind and stay behind patrols in the Philippines and were limited to talking on a radio,

these units are independent.

They have full strength of 1,800 to 2,000 men, but they have elements of infantry for security,

anti-ship missile capability, and air defense capability, as well as their own medical

and logistics capability.
