We have a show to do today.

0:02.6

The whole new acronym thing, drive me effing pen in. Can we call him by his dream? Shelter and Mass. On 985, the sports hub. Let's go. Offensively, you know, 3 to 13, on third down and 0.05 on 4th down, you know, we just, we could not convert, you know. And when you can't convert, that makes it very difficult. You know, felt like we were going to get a rhythm after that second quarter. We started, you know, we hit those explosives, went down, J-Mo scores, touchdown, you know, and it felt like, all right, here we go. Just couldn't ever really get in a rhythm offensively. You know, there's, I mean, there's some calls.

0:39.3

I wish I could have gotten back.

0:40.7

You know, I didn't help those guys.

0:42.6

I hate that.

0:43.3

Dan Campbell, head coach of the Detroit Lions, commenting on the loss last night to the Philadelphia

0:51.4

Eagles, what was another close game, which I have another take on all these big games, which we'll get to here in a moment.

0:59.8

16 to 9 was the final in Philadelphia.

1:03.4

Detroit, obviously, one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

1:07.6

Jemir Gibbs running all over that field last night.

1:09.6

They had only nine points. Detroit went 0 for 5 on 4th down. Dan Campbell, known for being aggressive. Did it here a number of years back. Paul, you brought this up earlier off the year. Bailey Zappi was the quarterback in that game. It was a 29-0-0-6. Okay. So this is not new for Campbell for Campbell. O for 5. He's done it before. Did it in the NFC

1:29.7

championship game. Does it over and over again. And I know

1:33.4

Jim Murray feels strongly about how

1:36.0

he has coached the Lions out of some wins. And Murray, how does that

1:39.3

relate to the Patriots? Yeah. So

1:40.9

that night game has potential questions for me regarding how the Patriots might handle a game like that come playoff time.

1:48.1

Because to me, already, Mike Rabel is shown to have some Dan Campbell-esque tendencies regarding fourth down.

1:54.3

Now, they've had, I was just looking here, how many attempts they've had this year, there's been 16 for the Patriots, which actually puts them kind of middle of the pack on fourth down attempts. The Panthers have the most. How many fourth down attempts do you think the Carolina Panthers have this year? Thirty-five. Twenty-seven. I mean, you're somewhat close, but that's insane. But 16 for the Patriots is kind of high for me anyway, but they have a good success rate on it. They've converted 13 out of 16.

2:33.2

Either way, I just don't know what the Patriots are going to be like if they can deal with a rock fight type of game like it was last night for the Lions and the Eagles. Is Rabel going to be like he's been at times this year? And there's times I've liked it when he's been all gas, no brakes like Campbell.

2:36.2

Or are you going to handle it like too much damn Campbell? Because last night, that was too much Dan Campbell. 0 for 5 on those fourth down attempts in a game like that where for me, that loss is on the coach, like almost 100%. Jared golf wasn't good either. But in a game like that, you just have to take the points, especially when there's not a lot of points to be had. And I get that that's the mentality of the Detroit Lions that Dan Campbell has taken over his head coach. It's go for it and help change their mentality. His decisions are decisions are clearly driven by analytics as much as feel. But I don't know if he has feel for the game because the feel for last night's game was this is a playoff game. It feels like a playoff game. This is a tight rock fight type of game. We need to take some points here when we've had these opportunities. And instead it's just, nope, nope, we're going for it. We're going for it. And they failed on it time and time and time again. So I just, I wonder, because there's been, well, I've liked some of the all-gas, no-breaks decisions by Mike Vrable at times so far this year. There's been others I've questioned, and we have yet to see them in a 13-9, 10-6 type of game, and I wonder, is he going to have that same kind of mentality as Dan Campbell has had? because I think that blew up in his face last night. Murray, do you have the list of fourth down attempts right in front of you? Yes. So you said that Carolina has the most fourth down attempts in the league. Where does Detroit rank? They're third, 23. So it's the Panthers, the Giants, the Detroit Lions of 23 attempts. Because I would have guessed Detroit was the highest. Like instinctively, I would guess Detroit. But they're third. I mean, it's not like they're going on. And they've only converted 13 of them. So it's 57%. So, you know, it's not a very good rate. But again, that's just his mentality. And we've seen it a little bit with Mike Rabel. but it feels to me like Rabel's got a better feel for the game I don't think you would have seen

4:17.9

I'd like to think. I wouldn't have seen the Patriots play out the way that the Lions played that game out last night was. Like that was just crazy to me in such a, with the Detroit defense playing the way that they were playing, holding that Eagles offense and check.

4:49.9

And I know it was windy, but I don't want to hear about the wind either because Elliot, the Eagles kicker, hit one dead nuts down the middle at like 49 yards. So it's not about him not trusting the kicker. No, they're just too in love with the analytics and going for it. And that's just his mentality. Like, we're always going for it on fourth down. I'm just thinking of a game the way that it played out last night in Philadelphia is just stupid.
