Summary

On this week's episode, I answer a listener question on how to be successful in sales situations.

I want to go to ground-zero with you.

If you're in sales, you have been told by your sales manager that if you build a relationship, you will make a sale.
You know it's true, but you should ask yourself why it's true.
If you build a relationship with someone and they become your best friend, not only are they never going to do business with anybody else, they're going to talk about you in glowing terms and bulldoze people in your path.

Customer satisfaction is a great concept, but I'm always blown away by companies that build their entire advertising campaigns on this.

The truth is that customer satisfaction is the lowest bar that you can possibly hit and stay in business.
What you want is a raving fan.
Raving fans do not happen because of price and product.
They happen because there is a relationship.

Whatever industry you're in, the real product is you.

It is important to get your eyes off yourself and become someone that others want to be around.
People want to talk about themselves and they're dying for somebody who will listen.

But should we, should we, I guess, you know, as Polly says to me sometimes, I started to say, should we tell everybody why? And as Polly says, well, you have to now.

1:00.1	details, but you can say something. All right. Well, okay, let's just put it this way. I was in
1:06.1	Indianapolis. They took me to the hospital.
1:11.8	I had surgery.
1:14.5	They blew me home a couple days later.
1:18.7	Went to a hospital there.
1:20.2	Had more surgery.
1:22.1	Got me home.
1:23.3	And I'm still hadn't gone anywhere.
1:27.5	And so, you know, the story that Robert and Polly and the boys, this story that they're telling everybody is kidney stones.
1:39.2	That's what I think that that's incorrect.
1:44.2	I think they're covering up something much larger because I really believe that I was,
1:52.0	that somebody grabbed me because I'm just like standing outside the elevators.
1:56.4	And now I didn't see them, but the evidence that I have suggested somebody grabbed me, beat me with a baseball bat, and then stabbed me with a sword in the back several times.
2:09.9	Now, they are sticking with their kidney stone story.
