Summary

“I’m a big believer that it’s never too late in your life to do something that you’re really passionate about,” says Lili Foggle, Founder of Impressive Interviewing, “It’s also never too late to pivot.” After 12 years of studying acting, Lili blew an interview for a major audition with a Broadway actor. It was this experience that led Lili to redirect her career into the nonprofit sector and soon after, full-time motherhood. Eventually, at age 52, Lili pivoted once again. Using her failed interview experience, Lili founded Impressive Interviewing, where she teaches others the skills they need to crush interviews and land their dream jobs.

Not wanting to invest a lot of time and money into her business, Lili started a simple website and later, despite initial apprehension, began posting on TikTok. To her surprise, she soon gained a loyal and enthusiastic following because she has carved her own niche, stayed authentic to her voice, and only posted when she has something valuable to say. Today she boasts over 52K followers.

No matter your age, it is never too late to start a new project or business you are passionate about, and having a diverse background is no reason to hold yourself back. In fact, anything you do is a set of transferable skills. Embrace the possibilities that lay ahead of you and build the business you’ve always dreamed of.

Quotes

• “I am living proof that interview skills can transform lives.” (6:19-6:23 | Lili)

• “Part of why I’ve had success on TikTok is because of how niche I am. (27:42-27:52 | Lili)

• “I know they say on TikTok, ‘You have to keep posting! Keep posting,’ but I’m not posting if I don’t have something valuable to say.” (28:34-28:43 | Lili)

• “My favorite thing about TikTok is that not a day goes by that I don’t see someone comment on my post saying, ‘Thank you. I watched your videos, and I got the job.’” (31:13-31:28 | Lili)

• “It’s never too late to pivot. You don’t have to have a traditional background.” (40:22-40:27 | Lili)

• “If you are willing to work hard and learn on the fly, there is really nothing you can’t do.” (41:14-41:19 | Lili)

Dear Founder, as you know, there's no blueprint for entrepreneurship. You wear so many hats,

0:09.7

you burn the men'side oil, you pour your heart and soul into everything that you do. But without a

0:14.8

doubt, the journey is worth every single second that you put into it. I'm Lindsay Pinchuk,

0:20.5

host of the Dear Founder podcast. I say this

0:23.3

because I've lived it for over a decade. I started my first company with $500 in my pocket and a

0:29.1

baby in my belly. I grew it and I sold it all. This podcast is my weekly letter to you. We'll

0:35.8

talk all things starting, growing, nurturing, and in some

0:39.7

cases even selling a business. Together with some of my closest contacts, I'm here to help you find

0:45.1

your own success, whatever that means to you. The ride as a founder is the ride of your life.

0:50.7

So come on and join me for another episode that will get you one step closer to

0:54.9

reaching your own founder goals. Welcome back to another episode of Dear Founder. I love today's

1:02.4

conversation for so many reasons. One, I could have talked to Lily Fogel of impressive

1:08.1

interviewing for hours, but two, her story is impressive in its own

1:14.1

right. A one-time stay-at-home mom at the age of 50, Lily decided she wanted to start a business,

1:20.8

especially as her girls were getting ready to leave to go to college. You'll hear the story today

1:25.9

of how she landed on being an interview coach,

1:28.3

but with that, I came to Lily because I put out a call for founders who have generated success

1:34.5

from TikTok, and Lily has. But the interesting thing about Lily is that she isn't your typical

1:40.4

TikToker. But today, she's going to tell you exactly why she believes she is succeeded in the space. Lily Fogel is a certified employment interview professional and the founder of impressive interviewing. Her interview preparation service has helped hundreds of her clients and many of her 40,000 plus TikTok followers to get the job they want and deserve.

2:02.2

Please come on in and meet Lily Fogel.

2:05.6

All right.

2:06.2

Today, and dear founder, we have Lily Fogel, who's the founder of impressive interviewing.
