Institutions of higher learning in America are under assault by supporters of, it's hard to believe, Hamas.

And those same institutions are so prominently

vouchsafing this assault by supporters of Hamas, that it raises questions across

America for Jewish Americans, for those of us who support Israel, and for those of us who have puzzled all these years about the Democratic left as to

what comes next? Is this a moment where Jewish Americans must ask are we safe in America?

I don't know. So I turned as that is Macotta writing in American greatness because it's a crisis I believe and it's a

crisis of confidence that is it cannot be solved but I do puzzle are you surprised

by this after all these decades of working so closely between

Israel and the United States that there are now these voices in America, political voices, voices with authority

or challenging Israel's right to exist.
